Memorial Public art
A commission to design the centrepiece of the City and Islington Peace Garden, situated on the former site of Dame Alice Owen Girls' School destroyed during the Blitz. The artwork consists of a curved metal structure based on the form of an Anderson shelter with a simple concrete plinth/bench inside. The piece is accompanied by a memorial for the 109 people killed during the Blitz on the 15th October 1940 at Dame Alice Owen Girls' School. The design is formed of two glass panels framed with stainless steel and set out asymmetrically within the plot. Suspended within the glass are fade-resistant prints featuring contemporary interpretive design; one describing the events and context of the tragedy, and the other forming a list of the victims names typeset in a map-based representation of the streets where they lived.
